ENGLISH LANGUAGE IN MATHEMATIC LEARNING



English is internationally language in the world. Many book, blog, website, etc use English language. It’s the reason why English is so important. English is a language for communicated in international or global. When we are studying in other country absolutely we use English for communication, speak, written with other people. We must have a good TOEFL too. In English II Mr. Marsigit often showing to all student an this class how to learning mathematic in other country. Mr. Marsigit show video of math learnig in other country. He usually take from youtube.

From the video we know that in other country all material mathematic use an English language. So, we study from them how to use English language in mathematic words. Such us we called ‘lingkaran’ in Indonesian language with circle, and many more.

Its important for us because when we communicate about mathematic in international forum of course we used English language. So, Mr. Marsigit give all student an assignment to make a blog with enlish language. And we can post our assignment in ther. Its really good, because in era globalization we must compete with other people to give the best paper or information .

Every assignment who given for us from Mr. Marsigit make me study to learnig English very well because Mr Marsigit create good atmosphere in his class. And to developing creativity of the student to usual English in every condition. Can developing our self to be scientific who can use bilingual.

I conclude that during study English II, I give many lesson, mainly to use English language in mathematic. And I have a lesson for make a blog as learning media.

ROMANIC NUMBER


Romanic number have still ever 300 BC. This number included one of number which much used in matemathic.

I represent number one ( 1)

V represent number five ( 5)

X represent number ten ( 10)

L represent number fifty ( 50)

C represent number a hundred ( 100)

D represent number five hundred ( 500)

M represent number a thousand ( 1000)


Rule to write romanic number.

  • Obtain decrease system

Decrease rule

Romanic number which smaller located in left. Main number called decrease number. Maximal decrease only one number.

Example :

  1. IV = 5 – 1 = 4

  2. XL = 50 – 10 = 40

Above the example, appear that, if the smaller is located in left, so obtain decrease system.

    • Obtain increase system

Increase rule

Romanic numberwhich smaller located in right. Main number called increase number, sum of increase number maximal 3 number.

Example =

  1. VII = 5 +2 = 7

  2. XV = 10 + 5 = 15

    • Obtain reapeating number

The romanic number symbol can used maxilla 3 times.

Example =

  1. 133 = CXXXIII

  2. 1988 = MCMLXXXVIII


Note :

  1. A symbol romanic number which can not in one line are V, L, D.

Example =

    1. LXXX = 80

    2. CXXII = 122

I explained to Riska about Romanic number. Romanic number ever we studied in elementary school. But it has several years ago. So, when I tell to Riska about Romanic number . she said that she know about it. But, the constraint,Riska forgot. Then, I tell her about Romanic number from beginning.At first, she feel so difficult to understand about romanic number, it because we used English language and it not easy to know what the meaning of sentences. But after I explained with English language which easier to understand and I given her some example, she don’t need more time to understand. I given her some exercise and she can did it.

I think Riska is smart student. But, she must more exercise to understand English language. Because, when I explained to her about romanic number , she feel difficult in language. Not in material about romanic number.


My impression about Riska.

When riska explained about scale to me, I feel riska very understand about this material.

And it is make me easy and fastly to reserved about scale. She can make me understand aout it. So, I can did her exercise to me. Thank you riska because you have help me to understanf about scale.

THE USE OF BLOG



What is a blog?

Blog is web application which same with an article in page of general web.

Web situs like this, usually can be acces by all internet user agree with topic and purpose from blog user. Many kind of blog. Such us, politic blog, healthy blog, media blog, and also, learning blog.

What is the function of blog?

Blog have many function, such us, note, diary, mass media in a politic campaign until media program and companies.

A part of blog keep safety by one written, while part of other by several written. Many of blog have interaction facilities with the visitor. The visitor who has visited our blog can give a comment about this blog. The collection of blog called blogsphare. And Blog can have a community.

The other function of blog is using blog for developing of mathemathic study.its included learning blog. Its mean that we can use blog to communicate about matemathic with other people or to communicate between student and lecture. Blog make us more easy to extanding our idea, mind, and we can use blog to post an assignment.

In blog we can asking about our assignment which not yet understanding to other people who more understand about it. Or to asking with lecture. We also can use blog to show our papper. And then, other people can see my creation in blog.

In this era globalization, blog is not something new. Many people have a blog. It because many people aware about the important of blog, mainly function blog in academy.

Blog make people more easy to give or get an information. But we must be carrefull because many criminal blog in internet. So, we use blog for positive activity, it can make us be avoid from blog crime. Because blog crime can hack, or duplicated our information in blog.

Graph of a rational function which can have discontinuiteis has a polynomial in the denominator.

For example :

F(x) = (x+2) / (x-1) , x = 1

F (1) = (1+2) / (1-1) = 3/0 when x = 1,

is a bad idea because of 0 in the denominator and it’s say break function graph.

F (x) = (x+2) / (x-1)

Insert x = 0 f (0) = 2/-1 = -2

Insert x = 1 f (1) = 3/0 (it’s impossible)

Rational Functions

Now rational functions don’t always work this way. Not all rational functions will give zero (0) in denomirator. Don’t forget rational functions denominator can be zero (0)

F (x)= 1/(x2+1)

If x= -1 f (-1)= 1/(-12+1)

Will never zero because of + 1


















For polynomial the graph is a smooth un broken curved. For rational functions,

x zero in the denuminator that is an impossible situation. So there is no value for the function and it’s break in the graph.


Break is in two ways:

  1. Break missing point

For example :

y= x2-x-6 / x-3

y(3)= 32-3-6 / 3-3

= 0/0 this is typical example of missing point syndrome

it’s not possible, not feasible, not allowed

when you see the result of 0/0, it’s also tells you that should be possible that the factor top and bottom rational function

and simplify.

Example:

y= x2-x-6 / x-3

y= (x-3)(x+2) / (x-3), (x-3)in the top canceled

to (x-3) in the bottom

so the function y= (x+2)

  1. Missing point is loophole

for the original function y= x2-x-6 / x-3 without simplify x=3 is a bad point. So we must simplify first there is no problem for x=3


REMOVABLE SINGULARTY

Appears simply a missing point in the graph, when “x” leads to 0/0 for this kind of break if a factor and simplify, rational funtions division by zero can be avoided.

LIMIT BY INSPECTION

Limit by inspection there are 2 condition :

  1. X goes to (+) or (-) infinity

  2. limit involves a polynomial divided with polynomial

for example :


lim 2x3+6 / x2+2x+1 ,is approaches infinity

  1. polynomial over polynomial

  2. X approaches infinity

If the problem lim 2x3+6 / x2+2x+1 using time procedures.

the key to determining limits by inspection is in looking at the power of x in the numerator and the denominator.

Remember that to apply these rules :

  • Must be dividing by polynomials

  • X has to be approaching infinity

Shortcut rules :

  1. if the highest power of x is the greater in numerator than the denominator, and the limit is possitive or negative infinity

example : lim 2x3 + 6 / x2+2x+1 , the limit of this expression is a + or – infinity

since all the numbers are + and x going to + infinity, the limit must be + infinity.

The highest power of x in numerator is greater than in the denominator, so the value is ~ .

If you can’t tell if the answer is + or -, you can :

  • substitute a large number of x

  • see if you end up with a possitive or negative number

  • whatever sign you get is the sign of infinity for the limit

  1. if the highest power is in the denominator, the limit is 0

example : lim (x3 + 2) / (x4+8) , since the highest power of x is in numerator = 3, and x ~ the denominator =4,the value is 0

  1. if the highest power of x on numerator is same as the highest power in denominator, limit is the coefficient of the highest power of x in numerator and denominator.

If this is a key in the limit is just the quotient of coefficients of the two highest powers. Remember the coefficient : the number that goes with a variable.

According to this rule : that means lim = coefficients of x3’s over each other.

example : lim (5x4+6x3-2x+1) / (10x4-2) , the highest power of x is same as in

x ~ numerator and denominator, the value of the limit is the coefficient = 5/10

  • continuity

normally we with say something continuous if it has no breaks or disruptions.
